Time Travel

I LOVE this post!!! I am a huge history buff and always imagine what it would be like to live in a different era. I think that I would most like to travel to the 1770s, 1880s, and the 1910s. My only condition, and I know this sounds incredibly shallow but you know you would want this too, is that I would want to go back and be a rich person in those times. Not just a nouveau riche but old, snobby, money – like the Vanderbilts. I could definitely be a Vanderbilt for a while.

Now for my reasoning.

I want to go to the 1770s because I love learning about the Colonial era. I want to see Philadelphia in its infancy. I want to dress in the fashions of the day and rub shoulders with Patriots. I want to eat dinner by candlelight and go back to a time before things were always complicated.

I want to go to the 1880s because that is also an era that I think is really interesting. When I think of the 1880s I think about boom towns in the west and Buffalo Bill and all the other infamous characters of the day. I think those would be exciting times to live in. I would also like to go back to that period to meet some of my ancestors that settled the land on which we now live. We have pictures of them at home and I want to know what those people were like.

When I think of the first decade of the 20th century I think of old New York and old money. I recently finished a saga about old New York and the upper class and I was completely enraptured. I want to schmooze with the rich and drink champagne every night and dance my life away with some good looking bachelor. I want to take trips to Newport to the “summer cottage” that has 50 rooms. I want to carry a parasol and be a delicate flower (not that I’m not a delicate flower now – I would just be a little more delicate and not curse as much). I want to be the kind of person that would ride first class in a luxury liner like the Titanic (except for the whole sinking thing) and be pampered. I know that it would get old fast not having any real freedoms like we have today such as going where we want, talking to who we want, marrying who we want, but having a few weeks in the lap of luxury would be nice.

I would definitely worry about how a small change could affect the future. Of course one of my conditions of time travel would be that what I did in my time in the era couldn’t change the past/future But if it did I would definitely be worried. I wouldn’t want to do something that would cause someone to not be born in the future (well, except for maybe some people) or something that would cause anything else that is harmful.

For the past three years I have had the same valentine and he has been amazing. He always gets me my favorite flowers and my favorite chocolates. He always knows exactly what I like and what I want. I would NEVER let him know if I didn’t like a gift he got me. I would never want him to tell me he didn’t like a gift I got him so I return the favor. I always say that I like the gifts I get, whether I do or not. I guess I am just too polite to say I don’t like it or maybe I just don’t have the lady balls to say it – I’m going to go with the first option.

When looking at this from a PR standpoint I would say that I could promote my product more on television, radio, and social media. The market is flooded with companies that specialize in Valentines and I can think of two companies that dominate the chocolate market- Russell Stover (which I am eating right now) and Whitman’s. Then we have Hallmark that dominates the card market. I think the Valentines market would be incredibly difficult to break in to and that the more frequent use of advertisements for any new products would be one of the best ways to promote my new product.

Um…Can You Not Do That Please??

Pet peeves. Thinking about mine just make me cringe. I have some very unusual pet peeves that hopefully I am not alone in having.

First, I HATE when people pop their knuckles, fingers, ankles, toes, back, neck – basically anything that makes a noise that is intentionally made by the owner of those bones. I really don’t understand why people do it! I mean, what are the benefits? I know people say it feels good but I would like to call bull on that. Did your fingers hurt so bad in the first place? The answer to that is no. It is the most annoying thing ever in the world to me. Stop trying to draw attention to yourself! Sorry I’m not sorry.

Second, I annoys me to no end when people listen to their music at school and have it so loud that everyone within a 20 foot radius can hear the music and lyrics clearly. It happens every single day. It is funny though because these people who want everyone to hear what they are listening to won’t be able to hear that music by the time they are 30 because they will be completely deaf. It’s common sense people! Turn your music down I don’t want to hear it! It is rude and so flipping annoying and completely detrimental to your own hearing. Lighten up.

Third, I cringe when people eat food off their fork and they scrape their teeth on the fork. Ugh…I really don’t know why it irks me so much. I know…it is very strange and I am at peace with that fact.

Fourth, I hate long fingernails. I especially hate when people pick their fingernails. I also hate when people tap their fingernails on a hard surface when they are making a point. In one of my classes last semester the girl I sat beside had very long, very yellow fingernails that she tapped on the table every time she talked – she made a tap with every syllable she spoke. I almost screamed – and almost ripped her fingernails off. Waaa so gross.

Lets see…what else?

I hate when people breathe too loud, talk too loud, dress in weird things, don’t dress for their body, need a root touch-up for their black hair that they bleach blonde and haven’t had it done in three months, chew with their mouths open (seriously people? Manners never go out of style), chew gum with their mouths open, snore, have unnatural hair colors, and many MANY more.

Well, that feels better!

The Book or the Movie..That is the Question

As far as books that have been made into movies the general consensus is that the book is always better. I love them both. It is true that most of the books that I have read have not been made into movies but as for the ones that have the have been equally enthralling. There are two series of books that instantly jump into my mind when I think of books that have been made into movies. They are also the most obvious. Drumroll please….Harry Potter and the Twilight Saga. I LOVED both the books and the movies that came from these sagas. I don’t care who you are or what you say…Twilight is AMAZING! My mind is made up and that will never change. Bella is a little too awkward for words but Jacob’s abs make up for that tenfold.

I think that most of the time I will choose to only watch the movie and skip the book. This is definitely true for Eat, Pray, Love. I bought the book before I saw the movie and I hated the movie so much I won’t touch the book. For the upcoming movie The Hunger Games I definitely want to read the book. I have heard such rave reviews that I am sure it won’t disappoint.

I mostly read period novels and those are rarely, if ever, adapted to movies. So I guess I will keep reading books such as A Great and Terrible Beauty and The Luxe and hope that someone, someday, will adapt them into movies.
